Minutes from April 16, 2005 Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 10:45 am and began with a Moment of Silence for the Sisters Inside

Old Business

Support Letters:

Members asked to take each of the letters of support.

Annika Deasy is asking that she be transferred back to Sweden, her home.

Linda Lee Smith has been found suitable for parole six times and Freddie Sue Aguirre five times.

Ana Garcia has been found suitable for the second time.

This is Margo Johnson's second time being found suitable.

There could be some problems with the Governor and paroling inmates very soon. On April 17, 2005 Crime Victims United of California is airing a 30-second television advertisement criticizing the parole policies of Governor Schwarzenegger.

Crimes Victims United of California is largely funded by the California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA), a major Schwarzenegger antagonist.

Non-profit development/brochure:

We now have a CFO, Liz Watts, and should have everything completed soon. We will then plan to raise funds and donations can be a tax deduction.

Gloria Killian has a meeting with the Montel Williams production company coming up and to develop the program that follows women who have just paroled and the struggles they face.

Get On The Bus still needs Teddy Bears. We are asking for medium size bears, but if you are given a stuffed toy that is not a bear or big enough as well as any other toy please know that they will not go to waste. These toys will be given to the children of women prisoner at Christmas.

New Business

VeronicaObregon and Mike Ramirez have submitted applications for the Board of Prison Terms. Either one of them would be an asset to the BPT.

Don Miller an ex-offender has applied as well. Don was granted release by the 9 th Circuit and has now started his own paralegal practice.

We need to start networking with the Republican Party. If you can think of or know any of these people and perhaps get an appointment let Gloria know so she can be there.

Governor wants to consolidate the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, headed by current Youth and Adult Correctional Secretary Roderick Hickman.
